VoMor Boosts Sales, Loyalty, Artistry

Savvy salon owners are always looking for creative ways to bring in new revenue. Whether it’s a marketing push for a hot product or a contest to see who can book the most add-on services, boosting the bottom line is the end goal.

VoMor® allows Aveda salon owners to create new revenue in both service and retail by 7 to 10 percent with extensions created exclusively for Aveda salons.

Jule Hidalgo, owner of Hidalgo Hair Studio in Longview, Texas, says VoMor® makes up about 20 percent of service profit in her salon.

“It’s a service that works for all our guests, whether they are a stay-at-home mom or a working professional,” Hidalgo says.

“Our guests are 90 percent color clients, and VoMor® extensions are color-matched to our Aveda color line, which makes it easy to keep my favorite shades on hand.”

Ada Polla Neill, executive director of VoMor®, adds, “We are exclusive to the Aveda network, color matched to the Aveda color wheel, and support Aveda products, benchmarks and service goals.”

Are Extensions Right For Your Clientele?

Extensions aren’t just a trendy addition to your salon menu— they’re just as important as hair color or texture services. If you’re selling a lot of thickening products and/or Invati™, you have clients with fine, thin or thinning hair who could be interested. VoMor® tape-in extensions offer thinning hair clients an instant solution for added volume.

“One box of tape-ins takes about 15 minutes to apply,” she says. “Guests will pay $200-$250 for the extension service and retail (box of hair). Then they’ll have a maintenance appointment every six to eight weeks, which should be about the same price as an entry level haircut.”

The tape-in extensions can be used three times before needing to be replaced, making the service and hair itself an affordable solution for clients with fine, thin, or thinning hair.

“I wasn’t sure about tape-ins before VoMor®,” says Hidalgo. “But when I saw the medical-grade adhesive, simple application and quality education, I quickly realized we needed to offer this to our guests.”

One of Hidalgo’s favorite VoMor® marketing strategies that she learned from her educator is to clip in half a box of hair to give a guest a quick preview of what they’d look like with extensions.

“We do it all the time, and as soon as the guest sees it, they want the extensions,” Hidalgo says.

Debunking Hair Extension Myths

Neill says in addition to incorrectly believing extensions are out of their price range, many guests also believe the hair will look fake or are only meant to create super big, long hair.

“Guests also believe it will take an entire day to put the extensions in, damage their hair and require a lot of maintenance,” she says.

VoMor® has proven each of these myths wrong, with its affordable, easy-to-apply extensions that require no more maintenance than an Aveda guest would do for their hair color—using Aveda shampoo, conditioner and styling products at home and coming into the salon every six weeks for reapplication.

For guests with thinning hair, VoMor® is the perfect complement to an Invati™ regimen and immediately gives them more youthful hair.

“VoMor® is one more tool to put in your belt when approaching fine, thin, hair,” Neill says. “There’s no damage to the hair when properly applied, and these guests become very loyal…”

“…75 percent of tape-in guests stick with it.”

And it’s often a transformational experience.

“You can change a guest’s look in 15 minutes with one box of hair,” says Hidalgo. “We can even fill in the sides if a guest is trying to grow out a hair cut.”

This loyalty translates to pre-booking and Aveda home-care—boosting the salon’s bottom line.

So how about those guests who do want long, luscious locks? VoMor® recently launched hand-tied extensions to meet their needs, too.

Enter Hand-Tied Extensions

Hand-tied extensions go up to 22 inches (tape-ins come in 12, 16 and 20 inches) for clients who want big, long hair.

“This group is usually younger, and want to be Instagram-ready,” says Neill. “But like tape-ins, there are no parameters.”

Guests can shampoo, use hot tools, swim, work out—whatever they normally do.

However, a hand-tied extension look usually requires a minimum of three to four boxes, and the service will take longer since the stylist is putting in more hair—but still, only two to three hours, just like a color service.

“We recently had a guest who was going on a tropical vacation,” says Hidalgo. “She already had long hair and comes to the salon every three months for balayage. Her hair is long, but fine. So our stylist told her she could have double the hair with one box of hand-tied extensions. She did it, and now she’ll come in every six weeks instead of every 12.”

And for guests who want an edgier style or to experiment with color, VoMor® provides the ability to try without commitment.

This fall, Aveda’s cutting-edge styling trio, X-Presion, took their artistry on the road to four locations across the country to showcase their Graphic Organic collection, featuring Aveda color and VoMor® extensions. Missed seeing them? Follow them for inspiration here.

Building Your Business with VoMor®

Getting certified is simple. VoMor® offers one-day, in-salon training. For tape-in certification, there’s another class six weeks later to learn how to remove them properly.

“Then we offer continuing education to salons as needed,” Neill says.

For stylists looking for new opportunity, VoMor® extensions provide a new service and a regular clientele who will always pre-book and purchase at-home care.

All of Hidalgo’s stylists are trained in VoMor®, including Hidalgo herself.

“I love the convenience of my VoMor® cart,” she says. “It has all my staples, can move around the salon, and it’s affordable.”

VoMor® recently launched single-sided tape-in extensions for guests with very fine hair, a technology that offers an even lighter extension—a game changer for Hidalgo.

“They lay perfectly on fine hair, and we can maximize the box into more hair—it’s one of my favorite innovations from VoMor®,” she says.

VoMor® tape-in extensions  also come in some of Aveda’s pure pigments, giving guests who want to play with color some fun options.

“Next year we’re celebrating our 10th anniversary and updating our brand packaging,” Neill says. “We’ll also be launching something very exciting for our lash domain.”
