A Fresh Take on Edutainment
Tatum Neill, creative director for Paris Parker Salons in Louisiana, is busy taking his Elevate Hair Fest concept to the next level. Described as a party, workcation and creative obsession, this year’s Fest will be held in New Orleans on June 7th.
The morning will kick off with workshops at the Ace Hotel featuring Fern the Barber, Josh Mosley, Jayne Matthews, Rebecca Taylor, Alix Maya and Confessions of a Hairstylist’s Jenny Strebe.
“After lunch, the fest moves to the Civic Theatre where three stages will feature technical education, and artists will be doing demonstrations throughout the space,” Neill says.
“Like a music festival, the education and music from a DJ will pulsate back and forth throughout the afternoon while attendees circulate through the space—and we’ll be doing live photoshoots.”
Neill didn’t want an event where attendees sit the whole time, and he believes combining entertainment with education encourages attendees to play and get inspired. It also offers a platform for up-and-coming artists., In addition to the headliners, the fest will feature demonstrations from artists who are new in the education space.
“The fest is open to everyone—we want to connect as many different brands as possible and expose people to a variety of ideas from artists at all stages of their career,” Neill says.
“We want to provide a platform for artists to express themselves—some who are more experienced will do more lecture-focused demonstrations, while others may be more comfortable cutting hair to music.”
True to the nature of a music fest, Elevate will include live painters, a tattoo artist and other fun surprises. After breaking for dinner, Elevate attendees will attend the Elevate Hair Awards and Elevate After Party.
